Knowledge dissemination is one of the most important actions in any research discipline, for this reason, this course aims to provide a structured procedure to translate the acquired knowledge into the written word. Writing a Scientific Article online course - condensed version guides you through the process of constructing papers complying with publication standards. This course provides the necessary tools to produce original reports, review articles, brief reports, manuscripts for conferences, case studies or any scientific document.
This course is especially integrated and designed as a ruta for ITESO teachers, particularly National System Researchers (SNI) as well as for any researcher who wishes to share new knowledge with the scientific community.
The main objective of this course is to initiate and/or expand your ability to write publishable papers from your research in indexed English language international journals. You will be expected to write a full article following the IMRaD format. (Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion).
The aim of this ruta is to provide a structured course to help researchers with their academic production and at the same time develop professional academic reading and writing skills with a special emphasis on the process of writing a scientific article. You will be expected to write a full article following the IMRaD format where applicable.
Participants wishing to take the route must demonstrate possession of a B2 level of English (upper-intermediate, according to Common European Framework of Reference). This can be documented with a score of 550 or higher on the Institutional TOEFL test, or its equivalent. Recent scores (less than two years old) on the TOEFL IBT or the Cambridge FCE, CAE or CPE exams are also acceptable. If you wish to take the route but you do not have an official record of your English level, you may submit previously published articles of your own as proof.

By the end of the course, you should have a manuscript of your research ready to be submitted to the journal of your choice.
At the end of the course, participants will receive a 64-hour certificate of participation. Submission of the final manuscript is required.
- The course comprises an individual writing task for each module (focusing on a different section of the manuscript as was explained above in Aspects to be examined)
- Each writing task involves an extensive reference search as well as following a specific writing process to order ideas and collected data. This is individual work guided and supported by the tutor
- The course features collaborative discussion forums in which participants can share experiences, suggestions, and useful information with classmates and tutor
The route involves approximately 8 hours of work a week as follows:
- 4 hours of guided work
- 4 hours of independent study
